WSJ: Israel shared intelligence with US on Iranian plot to kill Trump
Israel has shared new intelligence with the United States indicating that Iran may be planning a fresh attempt to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to people familiar with the matter cited by The Wall Street Journal.
Iran has for years publicly vowed to avenge the killing of Qassem Soleimani, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike ordered by Trump during his first term in office.
Speaking to reporters in Ankara, Türkiye, on July 8, Trump referred to what he described as ongoing threats against his life.
“They want to take out the U.S. leader—me,” he said. “I’m on every list. I saw this morning, I’m on every single one of their lists. And so far, I guess I’ve been a little bit lucky, but that maybe doesn’t last very long.”
According to The Wall Street Journal, the newly shared Israeli intelligence points to what Israeli officials believe is a renewed Iranian effort targeting the U.S. president. The report did not provide further details about the nature of the alleged plot or the intelligence supporting the assessment.
During funeral ceremonies for Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, some mourners chanted slogans calling for Trump's death, while a banner displayed at the event read, “We Will Kill Trump.”
