Xi Jinping proposes global governance initiative at SCO summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping has unveiled a new initiative on global governance during an expanded session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Tianjin.
Xi called for international cooperation to establish a fairer and more equitable system of global governance, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
“I would like to put forward an initiative on global governance and work with all countries to jointly create a fairer and more equal system of global governance, as well as a community with a shared future for humanity,” Xi said.
The 2025 Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit is taking place in Tianjin, China, from August 31 to September 1. This marked the 25th meeting of the Council of Heads of State, with over 20 countries participating, including China, Russia, India, and several Central Asian nations.
The summit focused on enhancing multilateral cooperation and promoting a multipolar world order. Additionally, plans were announced to establish an SCO development bank to bolster the organisation's global influence.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended, underscoring the strategic partnership among the three nations. The summit also featured discussions on countering Western dominance and fostering economic collaboration within the bloc.
The SCO, founded in 2001, has evolved from a regional security alliance into a broader platform for economic and political cooperation, aiming to challenge existing global power structures.
