Armenia urges locals not to panic over unverified “terror attack” on shopping centre
The National Security Service of Armenia has called the media outlets and citizens to refrain from publishing unverified information and comments about the threat of terrorist attacks in the country.
The service recommends citizens use official information sources and not spread unofficial information to avoid panic in society, Caliber.Az reports citing a statement by the service.
“The security situation in the republic is fully controlled within the powers assigned to the National Security Service,” the statement reads.
Earlier, information was circulated on social networks that the explosion in the Surmalu shopping centre on August 15 could have been triggered in a terrorist attack. This option was followed by massive reports of bombs planted on the territory of the metro, airport, parliament, churches, as well as civilian and military facilities. Later, the unified information centre stated that the bomb signals were received by email and were very difficult to trace.
