Azerbaijani, Japanese FMs discuss bilateral co-op at OSCE meeting in Poland

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Japanese counterpart Takei Shunsuke have discussed mutual cooperation between the two nations.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 29th OSCE Ministerial Council meeting in Łódź, Poland, on December 2, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry.

During the meeting, the ministers recalled that Azerbaijan and Japan is going to mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countires.

It was stated that despite the large geographical distance between the two countries, cooperation is built based on mutual respect and trust.

The meeting emphasised the importance of the political consultation mechanism and mutual visits. Prospects for expanding cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, humanitarian and other spheres, as well as on multilateral platforms, were discussed.

The two men also highlighted possibilities of cooperation to increase the potential of alternative energy sources, investment in the Alat Free Economic Zone, which is favourable to large investors, encouragement of Japanese companies to participate in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

Bayramov briefed his colleague on the current regional situation, the normalization process of Azerbaijan-Armenia relations, and the practical steps taken by Azerbaijan to eliminate the consequences of the almost 30-year occupation of its territories.

The minister also spoke about the existing mine threat in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories and the serious humanitarian problems caused by it.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on possible cooperation on Japan's membership in the UN Security Council in 2023, as well as on regional and global issues.
