France should not confuse Azerbaijan with Corsica, says MP

The inappropriate and implausible statements of French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna have no meaning for Azerbaijan, said Azerbaijani MP Vugar Iskanderov.

He recalled that the head of the French Foreign Ministry recently made statements on Twitter that were inappropriate for the head of the foreign affairs agency.

“Colonna said that France has been condemning the so-called "closure" of the Lachin road by Azerbaijan from the first day and she intends to visit Baku and Yerevan at the end of April to convey this idea. I think these words are outrageous. France has once again exposed itself to ridicule through such an approach," Iskandarov was quoted as saying by Report.

According to him, the French minister violates the norms and principles of international law with her comments.

“It is difficult to understand whether this is a speech by a minister or a student. The head of the French ministry must realize that before them is not the island of Corsica or the countries that France enslaved, but before them the leading country of the Caucasus - Azerbaijan. Same Azerbaijan, from the highest tribune, told the whole world about the crimes of France and called on them to apologise. And today Azerbaijan expresses its disagreement with the hypocritical policy of France, putting them in their place,” Iskandarov noted.

The parliamentarian added that the minister has no right to speak with Azerbaijan in the language of ultimatums.

“Such an attitude is unacceptable. If she arrives in Azerbaijan, the French minister will understand her mistake when she is met at the level of deputy head of one of the departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I believe that Colonna should not be accepted in our country at all. We have encountered many similar attacks. The inappropriate and implausible statements of French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonne have no meaning for Azerbaijan.”
