Interior minister: Türkiye detects no problems during presidential voting so far
REGION 28 May 2023 - 11:06
Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu has said that no problems have been detected so far during the presidential election process in Türkiye.
"There are currently 601,251 security officers providing security during the voting in the second round of Türkiye’s presidential election," TurkicWorld quotes the minister as saying after his participation in the election.
Voting in the second round of the presidential election in Türkiye is calm and without incidents, the head of the country's Justice Ministry, Bekir Bozdag, told reporters, TASS reports.
"According to the information we have now, there have been no negative moments after the start of voting. I hope for a high turnout," Bozdag said in the city of Sanliurfa, where he took part in the voting. The broadcast was carried by the TRT TV channel.
Referring to the country's Interior Ministry, CNN Turk reported that security for Sunday's (May 28) run-off presidential election in Türkiye is being provided by 596,700 law enforcers.
As many as 324,400 police officers, 193,900 gendarmes and 2,600 members of the Coast Guard are involved in ensuring security. Seventy-three helicopters, eight aircraft, 61 drones, 754 watercraft and 244 maritime assets, mostly boats, have been put on standby, the channel said.
The overall situation in the country is monitored by the Turkish Interior Ministry's Security and Emergency Situation Centre, which receives information from the country's 81 provinces. Almost as many forces were deployed to ensure security in the first round of voting, which took place on May 14, the TV channel recalled.
