EC disagrees with Hungarian PM’s position on Ukraine's EU membership

The European Commission (EC) has disagreed with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's statement, according to which the recommendation to start negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the regional commonwealth in December 2023 is unfounded.

Kyiv had done "impressive work" to prepare for becoming a member of the international organization, the representative of the European Union's (EU) top executive body Ana Pisonero, TASS reports.

In this regard, Brussels cannot agree with Budapest's position.

"We do not believe that our proposal is unreasonable," she clarified.

Pisonero also added that the decision on Ukraine's admission to the regional commonwealth should be taken by its member states. The EC, for its part, fulfilled the task set before it and recommended launching the relevant negotiations.
