France's silence on Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement raises questions

Amidst the recent Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement, notable silence from Paris has sparked curiosity and speculation regarding France's stance on the matter. Hakob Badalyan, an Armenian political analyst, highlighted this absence of acknowledgment from France in a Facebook post.

"During this period, France continues to remain silent on the Armenia-Azerbaijan agreement. By the way, we note another silence in Greece as well. Isn't it strange that even the Slovenian Foreign Ministry welcomes and congratulates Armenia and Azerbaijan, while France and Greece remain silent?" Badalyan remarked, Caliber.Az reports.

Badalyan also raised concerns about the motives behind France's silence, suggesting that it might be linked to the country's interests in the region.

"But why is it difficult to write a couple of lines on X? Of course, it is not difficult to write, but perhaps it is difficult to write against one's interests," Badalyan questioned.

The analyst referenced previous instances where France's involvement and priorities in the region were questioned. He recalled a statement attributed to French President Macron, suggesting a bias towards defending Armenia's interests over those of Azerbaijan.

"A few weeks ago, Ilham Aliyev said that France is fighting with Azerbaijan for leadership in the region. And today he even states that we don't need a mediator, between us, we have an agreement. What does this mean literally? Translated, it means that I have already reached such a level in this region that you should deal only with global issues and talk to me, and the Armenia-Azerbaijan issue is already fully in my 'weight category'," Badalyan noted.
