Media: Pashinyan considered imposing state of emergency

    REGION  25 May 2024 - 11:44

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan reportedly drafted a speech intending to announce a state of emergency but opted for a different message at the last minute.

According to Zhokhovurd newspaper, sourced by Caliber.Az, Pashinyan's evening address on May 24 diverged from his planned discourse, avoiding discussions on crucial matters he had prepared for.

Sources suggest Pashinyan had drafted a stern statement against forces impeding border delimitation, potentially including a declaration of a state of emergency.

The newspaper implies Pashinyan's remarks signalled a resolve to conclude border demarcation despite challenges, indicating a firm stance to external observers.

The publication states that Pashinyan's message was clear: regardless of the challenges ahead, border delimitation will proceed.

Pashinyan purportedly considered addressing Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan's revanchist movement in his speech but ultimately omitted this segment.

There are claims that Pashinyan contemplated characterizing border obstruction as an assault on statehood and contemplated dispersing Sunday's rally even at the expense of invoking a state of emergency.

Government insiders disclosed that Pashinyan consulted security officials, who advised against the imposition of a state of emergency.
