Russian terror suspect captured in Türkiye's Bodrum Arrest moment caught on camera

25 July 2024 17:31

Yevgeny Serebryakov, the prime suspect in a car bombing in northern Moscow, was apprehended in Bodrum, Türkiye while attempting to flee the country.

Serebryakov arrived in Türkiye by plane, posing as a tourist and after renting a car, he travelled from the airport to Bodrum, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

Interpol's descriptions and photos of Serebryakov were promptly shared with Turkish authorities, prompting the Bodrum Police Department to act swiftly.

Utilizing airport surveillance footage and the city's security management system, authorities tracked the suspect's movements in stages. The car rented by Serebryakov was monitored over a 50-kilometre stretch, and once his final location was confirmed, a police operation led to his arrest.

There are also suspicions that he might have planned to use smugglers to cross to Greece by boat.

On July 24, a Toyota Land Cruiser exploded in the courtyard of a residential building on Sinyavskaya Street in Moscow. The blast injured two individuals, including a Defence Ministry officer and his wife. Serebryakov, who was detained in Turkey on the same day, has been charged in absentia by the Zamoskvoretsky court of Moscow with attempted murder (part 2 of article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and illegal possession of weapons (article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Investigations suggest he may have acted on behalf of Ukrainian special services, with potential accomplices.
