About 100 additional US troops with Paladin artillery systems arrive in Lithuania
About 100 soldiers of the First Battalion of the 109th Artillery Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard (USA) arrived in Lithuania on Thursday with Paladin artillery systems, Interfax reports.
“This unit will strengthen the existing US rotational capacity in Lithuania. The unit includes a battery with 155-mm M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzers and more than 100 other vehicles,” the Lithuanian army said.
It is noted that the soldiers will complement the US rotational battalion currently stationed in Lithuania, which includes about 600 military personnel with tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and short-range air defense systems.
Representatives of the Lithuanian army reported that the newly arrived unit had about 10 Paladin howitzers. Military equipment was delivered by rail to the training ground in Pabrade (Shvenchensky district of the republic, not far from the border with Belarus), where the US unit will be deployed.
The US military is in Lithuania on a rotational basis.
