AI, not humans, tops odds to shine as Time Person of the Year 2025
Artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as the frontrunner to be named “Person of the Year” by Time magazine, according to data from Polymarket, cited by Caliber.Az.
The data indicates that AI has a 37% chance of receiving the title. Following AI are Nvidia CEO and founder Jensen Huang at 17%, Pope Leo XIV at 15%, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman at 8%, and U.S. President Donald Trump at 7%, who was named Time Person of the Year in 2024.
The development reflects the growing public and media attention on AI technologies and their influence across multiple sectors worldwide.
Time magazine, a leading American publication, has been awarding the “Person of the Year” title annually since 1927. The award recognises the individual, group, idea, or object that “for better or for worse… has had the most influence on the events of the year.”
AI being considered for the 2025 title underscores the technology’s rapid global impact in fields ranging from industry, science, and finance to media, art, and communication. This is part of a trend where Time occasionally recognises non-human actors that have reshaped society, emphasising influence rather than moral judgment.
