Air China set to launch flights on Beijing–Tbilisi route
China’s largest airline, Air China, is set to launch regular flights between Beijing and Tbilisi, Georgia’s Civil Aviation Agency announced.
The agency has granted the airline permission to start regular flights from December 2, 2025, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The Beijing–Tbilisi route will operate via the city of Urumqi along the following path: Beijing – Urumqi – Tbilisi – Urumqi – Beijing. Flights will run twice a week — on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
The agency noted that the launch of direct air service between Beijing and Tbilisi became possible thanks to the visit of Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to the People’s Republic of China and the successful negotiations held during the trip on expanding bilateral cooperation in civil aviation.
During the visit, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, signed a memorandum of understanding on the development of the “Air Silk Road,” which envisions strengthening cooperation between the aviation sectors of the two countries based on liberal air-transport principles.
A separate interagency memorandum on the same issue was also signed between Georgia’s Civil Aviation Agency and the Civil Aviation Administration of the People’s Republic of China.
Air China entered the Georgian market in December 2024. To date, the airline operates twice-weekly flights between Tbilisi and Urumqi and has carried 25,035 passengers over the first ten months of the current year.
