Albania releases booklet on historical absence of Azerbaijanis in present-day Armenia
A booklet dedicated to the historical reasons for the absence of Azerbaijanis in the territories of modern-day Armenia was published in Albania.
“Recently, booklet by the Center for Analysis of International Relations and the Center for Eurasian Studies titled “WHY ARE THERE NO AZERBAIJANS IN THE MODERN TERRITORIES OF ARMENIA?’ has been published in Albanian language,” Azerbaijan's ambassador to Albania Anar Huseynov said on X, Caliber.Az reports.
Huseynov said “This publication reflects a historical overview of the situation on the topic, attacks and intimidation against Azerbaijanis, the erasure of their cultural heritage, efforts to return to their homeland and the legal foundations for that.”
“We hope that this publication will help local readers and researchers to get a different view on developments and realities of our region,” he added.
Between 1988 and 1991, a significant number of Azerbaijanis were expelled from Armenia amid ethnic cleansing and territorial claims. This period saw the forced departure of Azerbaijanis from 261 villages and towns, affecting approximately 250,000 individuals. Eyewitness accounts highlight the traumatic experiences of those displaced, including the loss of homes and personal belongings to incoming Armenian populations. The Azerbaijani government reports that over 138,000 Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced persons due to these events.
