Ankara targets NATO logistics gap with pipeline proposal
Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence has proposed that NATO develop a fuel pipeline project aimed at strengthening supply logistics on the alliance’s eastern flank.
According to a statement, the initiative forms part of a broader capability development package currently awaiting NATO approval. It is intended to reinforce NATO’s energy supply infrastructure along its eastern flank, Hürriyet reports.
“In light of recent developments in the Strait of Hormuz, this project is important for reducing NATO’s dependence on maritime fuel transport and enhancing NATO interoperability,” the ministry said.
The Turkish Defence Ministry also noted that financing for the project is expected to come from NATO’s joint fund.
It added that the proposal is “five times more cost-effective than alternative options” and, if approved, could be implemented in a significantly shorter timeframe.
