Armenia details wheat standards amid landmark transit through Azerbaijan
Armenia’s Food Safety Inspection Body has published the findings of laboratory analyses carried out on wheat imported from Russia and Kazakhstan via Azerbaijani territory.
As reported by Caliber.Az, citing Armenian media, the tests confirmed that the Russian wheat sample meets Class 2 quality standards, while the sample from Kazakhstan corresponds to Class 3.
This comes after earlier reports suggested that Kazakh Class 4 grain shipped to Armenia was intended for processing into animal feed and was therefore unsuitable for bread production.
The delivery of Kazakh wheat to Armenia through Azerbaijan follows a gradual easing of tensions between Baku and Yerevan. In a significant policy shift announced on October 21 in Astana, President Ilham Aliyev declared that all cargo transit restrictions to Armenia — in place since the years of occupation — would be lifted.
The announcement, made alongside Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signalled Azerbaijan’s intention to advance the peace process and promote broader regional connectivity.
