Armenia’s ruling party dismisses possibility of early elections Criticizes Kocharyan's efforts
Armenian ruling Civil Contract party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, has firmly ruled out the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections.
Vahagn Aleksanyan, a member of the party's parliamentary faction, addressed the issue in parliament, asserting that the topic of snap elections is not under discussion, Caliber.Az reports citing Armenian media.
Aleksanyan dismissed the opposition's threats to resign their mandates as ineffective, stating, "even if the opposition resigns its mandates, the issue of holding snap parliamentary elections will not be solved."
He also expressed confidence that any attempts at initiating impeachment against Pashinyan would fail, adding a touch of irony by suggesting not to discuss hypothetical scenarios before they materialize.
The parliamentarian described the revanchist movement, led by former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan, as merely a political maneuver. He highlighted that Kocharyan’s supporters include former allies from his tenure as president.
Aleksanyan downplayed the significance of the May 9 rally organized by Kocharyan, noting that similar numbers of people were gathered by him before the 2021 snap elections without resulting in significant political change.
