Armenia to create police guard instead of police units
Armenian Interior Minister Vahe Ghazaryan has said that a police guard will be created as part of the establishment of the Armenian Interior Ministry.
Ghazaryan made these remarks at an Armenian parliament commission meeting, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The minister noted that after the final establishment of the Interior Ministry, the police troops will be demilitarized and reformed into police guards.
It will include both the main department of state protection and the subdivision of the traffic police accompanying top officials.
“As a result, a new police service, capable of solving strategic tasks, meeting all modern international criteria, and equipped with appropriate weapons, will be created. At present, models and ways of building the most effective interaction of the new service with the armed forces of the country are being discussed,” the report says.
