Kazakhstan appoints new deputy defense minister and navy commander
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has made new appointments within the country’s defence leadership, naming a Deputy Minister of Defence and a new Commander-in-Chief of the Navy.
By presidential decree, Serik Zhaksygaliyevich Burambayev has been appointed Deputy Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan and relieved of his previous position, Caliber.Az reports.
The Ministry of Defence website notes that Burambayev had served as Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan prior to this new appointment.
Burambayev was born on April 16, 1969, in Pavlodar. He graduated from Atyrau State University, the Kyiv Higher Naval Political School, the Military University of the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation, and also completed academic courses at the National Defence University. He holds a PhD, the military rank of major general, and the naval rank of vice admiral.
Throughout his career, Burambayev has held posts at the Naval Institute headquarters, served as deputy commander-in-chief of the Naval Forces, and acted as chief of the General Staff of the Naval Forces.
He also worked within the Ministry of Defence and the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan. He had been serving as Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces since June of the previous year.
Following Burambayev’s promotion, Kanat Serikkaliyevich Niyazbekov has been appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan.
The Ministry of Defence website indicates that Niyazbekov holds the rank of captain 1st rank, serves as chief of the main staff, and is the first deputy commander-in-chief of the Naval Forces.
