Ukrainian drone strike kills one, injures ten in Kursk apartment blast
A Ukrainian drone strike hit an apartment building in the Russian city of Kursk, killing one woman and injuring ten others, regional acting governor Alexander Khinshtein said on August 15.
According to Khinshtein, the attack sparked a fire on the top four floors of the building, which emergency services quickly brought under control. The blast wave shattered windows in neighbouring residential blocks and a nearby school.
“The number of injured has risen to ten, including a child born in 2010. Our doctors are doing everything possible to help the victims recover. Unfortunately, a 45-year-old woman died at the scene. I extend my condolences to her loved ones — we will provide all necessary support to her family,” Khinshtein wrote on his Telegram channel.
Authorities are currently inspecting the damaged building and assessing the scale of destruction. While repairs are pending, residents will either be relocated to temporary shelters or compensated for rental housing. At present, they are being accommodated in a nearby school. The victims will also receive financial compensation.
Earlier on Friday morning, the Armed Forces of Ukraine launched drone attacks on Russia’s Samara region, prompting the temporary closure of the local airport and restrictions on mobile internet access. Officials reported no casualties or damage from the strikes in Samara.
