Armenia voices readiness to unblock regional transport links
Armenia, being a landlocked state, is interested in unblocking and further development of all infrastructures in the region.
The statement came from the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan in a meeting held in the “3+3” format of the regional consultation platform in Tehran, Iran on October 23.
“Armenia, being a landlocked state, is interested in unblocking and further development of all infrastructures in the region. Based on the principles of respect for the sovereignty and jurisdiction of states, reciprocity and equality, Armenia is ready to become part of regional infrastructure projects. We believe that the intersection of North-South and East-West transport routes in our region, including the sovereign territory of Armenia, can become a unique crossroads of the world for everyone,” TASS quotes Mirzoyan as saying.
He noted that Yerevan attaches special importance to the process of mutual integration of railway infrastructures.
“Armenia is interested in having a railway connection through the territory of Azerbaijan with Iran, Russia, and Central Asia. [We are] ready to provide access to the railway passing through the territory of Armenia for other countries in the region, as well as for other international crossings based on the principle of reciprocity. In this context, no less important is the resumption of operation of the Gyumri-Kars railway, as well as the passage of the North-South corridor through the territory of Armenia,” Mirzoyan stated.
