Armenian ambassador, US official discuss TRIPP implementation in Washington
Newly appointed Armenian Ambassador to the United States, Narek Mkrtchyan, met with US Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs Allison Hooker in Washington on October 8.
According to the Armenian Embassy in the US, shared via its Facebook page and reported by Caliber.Az, the meeting focused on the documents signed in Washington on August 8, including the Memorandum of Understanding between Armenia and the US, as well as progress on the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP) project.
Hooker reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to promoting peace and regional cooperation in the South Caucasus.
The August 8 summit in Washington saw Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan sign a joint declaration establishing a seven-point framework emphasising mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, the renunciation of force, and steps toward regional integration.
A key component of the framework is the TRIPP, widely referred to as the Zangezur Corridor. This strategically significant transit route through southern Armenia is intended to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave, supporting economic growth and fostering regional cooperation.
Additionally, the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan initialled a draft Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan, marking a milestone in efforts to secure lasting peace and integration in the South Caucasus.
