Armenian MP predicts Russian border guard withdrawal from Azerbaijan border
In response to inquiries regarding the future of Russian border guards stationed in Tavush (Tovuzgala), Andranik Kocharyan, head of the Armenian Parliament's Defence and Security Commission, offered insights during a conversation with Armenian media.
"Well, if they have nothing to do, they will decide what to do themselves and will naturally move to the base, however, at the moment they are standing there. There are other such places where they are standing for the time being," Kocharyan remarked, as reported by Caliber.Az.
He further elaborated on the potential scenario, stating, "as they (border guards of the Federal Security Service of Russia) should eventually leave the airport Zvartnots and the service should be carried out by Armenian border guards, also here (Tavush region). If all issues are resolved and we reach peace, they have nothing to do there, I think there is no sense for them to stand idle. When there is no need, why should they stay and what will they do? They will return to the base."
Kocharyan's comments shed light on the considerations surrounding the presence of Russian border guards in the region, emphasizing the potential for adjustments in alignment with evolving circumstances and peace agreements.
