Armenian PM, US Secretary of State discuss bilateral relations, regional stability
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation to discuss Armenian-American relations and the broader regional agenda.
During the discussion, the two officials addressed the Armenia-US strategic partnership and key regional developments, Caliber.Az reports, citing the press service of the Armenian government.
Pashinyan briefed Rubio on the negotiation processes that led to an agreement on the draft treaty On the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. The Armenian Prime Minister emphasized that the draft agreement is now awaiting formal signing.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining high-level diplomatic engagement between Armenia and the United States.
In a statement released by US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Secretary Rubio underscored Washington’s support for the peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, highlighting its potential to foster long-term stability in the South Caucasus. He emphasized the importance of breaking the cycle of conflict and ensuring regional security and prosperity. The Secretary and the Prime Minister also agreed that any form of escalation in the South Caucasus is unacceptable.
Earlier, Pashinyan informed the presidents of Russia, Iran, and France via telephone about the conclusion of negotiations on the draft peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
