ASTRA: Russian aircrafts drop sixth bomb on own territory in 2026
On January 28, a high-explosive aerial bomb (FAB) fell from a Russian aircraft in Sheino, Korochansky District, Belgorod Region, without detonating, marking at least the sixth bomb dropped by Russian planes on their own territory in 2026.
According to the sources from regional emergency services, no casualties were confirmed, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ASTRA Telegram channel.
The channel previously found that in 2025, Russia dropped at least 143 aerial bombs on its own and occupied territories, while in 2024, at least 165 FAB bombs fell on these areas.
ASTRA reported earlier that to counter Ukrainian air defences, the Russian military began equipping Soviet-era FAB bombs with universal planning and correction modules (UMPK). This upgrade adds wings and satellite guidance, allowing bombs to be launched from Russian territory.
However, due to system imperfections, the bombs do not always reach their targets and sometimes fall on Russian soil. Russian authorities reportedly try to conceal such incidents, and when civilians are affected, they often attribute the damage to Ukrainian forces.
In January 2026, Fighterbomber, a channel close to the Russian Aerospace Forces, acknowledged that Russian aerial bombs regularly fall within Belgorod and offered speculation on why this occurs.
