Dozens of people were killed after a school was struck in the Iranian city of Minab, leaving 40 dead and another 48 injured, according to the Iranian state news agency IRNA.
The incident occurred amid a broader escalation following Israeli strikes launched on February 28 against targets across Iran. Reports indicate that the initial wave of attacks focused primarily on sites in Tehran. Israeli media claimed that General Amir Hatami, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Army, was allegedly killed during the operation.
Residents in Tehran described widespread panic as powerful explosions rocked the city, causing significant damage to government buildings. According to media reports, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei is no longer in the capital and has been moved to a secure location, while mobile communications have been disrupted in several parts of the city. Explosions were also heard in the cities of Qom and Isfahan.
