Attack on Georgia's largest opposition party headquarters raises concerns

01 June 2024 12:48

The central office of Tbilisi's largest opposition party fell victim to an assault by unidentified perpetrators.

As reported by the party's press service and relayed by Caliber.Az citing Georgian media, the United National Movement was targeted in the attack.

According to the party's account, the incident occurred overnight when individuals armed with batons vandalized the party's premises, shattering windows and causing extensive damage to property.

The party alleges that approximately 100 individuals participated in the assault, further claiming that threats were made against party members' lives.

This attack follows a pattern of hostility towards opposition entities and non-governmental organizations, with derogatory graffiti appearing on the facades of other opposition parties and NGOs the day prior.

Despite these developments, the Georgian Interior Ministry has refrained from providing any comments to the media regarding these incidents.
