Pakistan, Russia hold counter-terrorism talks in Islamabad
Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Pakistan) said Pakistan and Russia held the 12th meeting of their Joint Working Group on Countering International Terrorism in Islamabad on June 23, 2026, focusing on regional security challenges and bilateral cooperation.
The discussions were led by Additional Secretary Muhammad Khalid Khan Jamali on the Pakistani side and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Dmitry Lyubinsky for Moscow, according to the statement posted on X.
Both delegations exchanged assessments on evolving terrorist threats in the region, with particular emphasis on risks originating from Afghanistan and their implications for neighbouring states and broader regional stability.
The two sides also reviewed existing counter-terrorism cooperation and explored ways to deepen coordination in multilateral formats, including the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.
