Australia summons Israeli envoy over probe refusal into Gaza aid worker's death
Australia has summoned Israel’s ambassador over the decision by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) not to open a criminal investigation into the death of an Australian aid worker in Gaza, Ynet reports.
The worker was among seven employees of World Central Kitchen (WCK) killed on April 1, 2024, when fire was directed at vehicles belonging to the international aid organisation.
An IDF inquiry concluded that the decisions made by commanders did not meet the criminal threshold, citing a sequence of suspicious indicators and the overall operational circumstances.
The inquiry found there was no reasonable suspicion of a criminal offence that would justify opening an investigation or taking further action.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said the decision was “far from sufficient” and that Canberra was “outraged” by it.
