Azerbaijan celebrates birthday of composer Uzeyir Hajibeyli, founder of national music
On September 18, Azerbaijan marks the birthday of the great composer and founder of national musical art, Uzeyir Hajibeyli. The day is traditionally celebrated as National Music Day, Caliber.Az reports.
Hajibeyli opened a new chapter in the history of art by creating the first opera of the East, Leyli and Majnun, which premiered in Baku in 1908. Following its success, he composed a series of national operas and became the founder of the musical comedy genre in Azerbaijan.
The author of the anthems of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Soviet Azerbaijan, and modern Azerbaijan, Hajibeyli left behind a rich legacy — hundreds of songs, cantatas, choral and chamber works. His creations have become an enduring part of history, and his name and music continue to live in the hearts of the people.
