Azerbaijan completes new highway to Zangezur VIDEO

Azerbaijan's AzVirt company has released new footage of the construction progress on the Horadiz–Jabrayil-Zangilan-Aghband highway (Zangezur corridor), which spans 123.6 kilometres and was initiated by the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

The latest images show that the monumental construction is entering its final stages, with most of the road's asphalt already laid, Caliber.Az reports.

The project begins at the village of Ahmadbayli in the Fuzuli district and is being developed in accordance with international standards for first-category highways.

The road features a 77.5-kilometre segment with six lanes, while the remaining 46.1 kilometres are designed with four lanes. The width of the carriageway measures 29.5 and 21.5 metres, respectively.

Additionally, the road will include three vehicle tunnels with a total length of 6 kilometres, and bridge construction is actively underway. Completion of the roadway is anticipated by 2025.

As part of the Hajigabul–Horadiz–Aghband–Zangezur highway, the Horadiz–Jabrayil–Zangilan–Aghband highway holds significant importance for the economic development of Karabakh and East Zangezur.

Notably, the foundation of the Horadiz-Jabrayil-Zangilan-Aghband highway was laid on October 26, 2021, with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The highway is one of the road infrastructure projects implemented in Azerbaijan’s Karabakh and East Zangazur economic regions following the instructions of President Ilham Aliyev, which will play an important role in the socio-economic development of the liberated districts and villages.

This road is part of the Hajigabul-Horadiz-Aghband-Zangazur highway and is of great importance in terms of connecting Zangilan with other districts of Azerbaijan and the country’s Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
