Azerbaijan finalizes comprehensive environmental monitoring of Caspian Sea
Comprehensive environmental monitoring carried out by an expeditionary group consisting of specialists from the Azerbaijani Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, institutes of zoology and physiology in the Caspian Sea on a research vessel named after Alif Hajiyev has been completed.
During the monitoring, stocks of sturgeon, Caspian seals and other aquatic biological resources were studied, and visual observation of bird migration was carried out, according to the head of the Department of Integrated Environmental Monitoring of the Caspian Sea Nazim Mahmudov, who led the expedition, Report informs.
He noted that 117 samples of water, zooplankton, benthos, and bottom sediments were taken in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, and the state of air pollution over the sea was studied, hydrometeorological measurements were taken and biodiversity was surveyed.
