Belgian government urges early signing of Armenia-Azerbaijan peace deal
The Belgian government has called for the swift signing of the draft peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia, which was agreed upon in March 2025.
Belgium’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasised the country’s commitment to regional stability and international law in a comment to Report, calling the sides to sign a deal as soon as possible, Caliber.Az cites.
"We support sustainable peace and regional development based on the UN principles of territorial integrity, sovereignty, and respect for human rights. Belgium, as an active member of the European Union, consistently supports the peaceful resolution of conflicts in the South Caucasus region and adherence to international law," the ministry said.
The comment came in response to a question regarding a recent resolution adopted by the Belgian Chamber of Representatives. The document, which addressed the situation in the South Caucasus, contained statements, which Baku views as an unfriendly move that could undermine the peace process.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that, under the principle of separation of powers, the parliament has independent and autonomous authority to adopt resolutions.
