Baku lyceum to end intake for Russian-language classes
Lyceum "Hədəf" in Baku will no longer accept first-year pupils into its Russian-language sector from the start of the next academic year.
The decision, announced by the lyceum’s founder and director, Associate Professor Shamil Sadiq, comes as the school shifts towards a bilingual model focusing on Azerbaijani and English, Caliber.Az reports.
According to Sadiq, two main factors influenced the move: declining interest in Russian-language education and the institution’s desire to prioritise Azerbaijani–English bilingual instruction.
Russian will continue to be offered as a second foreign language, with all opportunities preserved for pupils wishing to study it.
“We are revising our educational priorities. Our new model will centre on Azerbaijani and English,” Sadiq said.
He added that current pupils in the Russian-language sector need not worry, as they will be able to continue their studies as before.
