Azerbaijan says 3,683 people remain missing from conflicts with Armenia
Azerbaijan says 3,683 people remain missing as a result of two military conflicts with Armenia, according to figures presented at an international conference in Baku on issues related to missing persons.
The data were released during the conference, titled "Enhancing Cooperation and Advancing Modern Approaches in Addressing the Issue of Missing Persons,” held at the Gulustan Palace, Caliber.Az reports.
Officials said a total of 4,010 people had been registered as missing. Of those, 4,004 disappeared during the First Karabakh War, including 3,715 men and 289 women. The missing comprise 3,222 military personnel and 782 civilians, including 71 children, 288 women and 319 elderly people.
Six additional people were reported missing during the 2020 Patriotic War.
According to the figures presented, the remains of 893 missing persons have been recovered to date, including four in June 2026 and 62 during the first six months of the year. A total of 144 sets of remains were recovered in 2025.
Authorities said the identities of 327 people have been confirmed through forensic identification, including 14 in June and 56 during the first half of 2026.
The remains of 266 identified individuals have been returned to their families for burial, including 23 during the first six months of 2026.
Additionally, 3,683 mass graves have been discovered.
