Azerbaijan foils 18-kg drug smuggling attempt from Iran
Officers of Azerbaijan's southern Bilasuvar district police department have thwarted an attempt to smuggle 18kg of drugs from Iran into the country.
As a result of the operation to counter illegal drug trafficking, 18 kg of drugs, weapons and ammunition were found from the detained suspects in the illegal import of potent narcotic drugs from Iran into the country for their further sale in the capital and illegal storage of weapons and ammunition, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Interior Ministry press service's Lankaran regional group.
During one of the operations on the territory of the district, 18 kg of drugs were found and seized from the detainee - Baku resident Elvin Suleymanov.
Moreover, employees of the Bilasuvar district police department detained district resident Asif Mayilov, suspected of illegal possession of narcotic drugs, weapons and ammunition. Heroin, an AK-74 assault rifle, two magazines and 30 rounds of ammunition were found and seized with him.
Over the past month, police officers have detained and brought to justice a total of 19 people suspected of drug trafficking.
