Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia discuss North-South transport corridor development
Delegations from Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia recently convened to strategize on expanding the market share of their respective national carriers in the international road freight transport sector.
According to Caliber.Az, the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport has reported significant outcomes from this trilateral meeting, which gathered representatives from the road transport sector, customs services, associations of road carriers, international freight carriers, and top officials from transport companies.
The meeting included field visits to border checkpoints in Azerbaijan (Astara and Khanoba), Iran (Astara), and Russia (Tagirkend), where delegates familiarized themselves with customs inspection procedures and document processing requirements for vehicles crossing these checkpoints. This practical observation aimed to streamline border procedures and facilitate smoother transit for freight vehicles.
Participants exchanged views on enhancing logistical efficiencies, reducing transit times, and boosting the corridor's overall capacity to handle increased freight traffic. The dialogue also emphasized collaboration among the three countries to optimize transport routes and promote greater integration of their respective transport networks.
During the meeting, they also exchanged ideas on the potential and prospects for the development of the North-South international transport corridor.
