Azerbaijan and China are preparing to sign a protocol within the framework of Azerbaijan’s accession to the World Trade Organisation (WTO), following the conclusion of negotiations on trade in goods and services.
The Azerbaijani Ministry of Economy announced that the agreement was reached during Deputy Economy Minister Samad Bashirli’s official visit to China, where he met with China’s Deputy Minister of Commerce, Yan Dong, per Caliber.Az.
The two officials reviewed the final stage of negotiations and emphasised the mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral trade relations.
“The negotiations between Azerbaijan and China on goods and services within the WTO accession framework have now concluded. Both sides noted that the relationship between the two countries is grounded in mutual trust and friendship, and that there is strong potential for expanding trade cooperation,” the ministry said in a statement.
In addition to official discussions on WTO-related issues, Bashirli also held talks with representatives of the Chinese energy conglomerate TBEA, which specialises in electricity transmission and renewable energy technologies. During the meeting, Azerbaijani officials provided an overview of the country’s investment climate, highlighting the reforms and opportunities available to foreign investors.
The two sides discussed possible avenues for partnership, particularly in the energy sector, and shared perspectives on long-term cooperation.
