Tajik delegate highlights benefits of investing in Azerbaijan’s infrastructure “C6: One Region, Shared Future” conference
Tajikistan supports the creation of a permanent mechanism to oversee and coordinate transport and transit cooperation between Central Asian states and Azerbaijan.
The proposal was put forward by Bakhtiyor Khamdanov, a senior Tajik official advising the president on strategic policy, during an international conference in Baku, Caliber.Az reports citing local media reports.
The event focuses on the C6 framework, which brings together the five Central Asian republics and Azerbaijan.
Khamdanov, who heads the Department for the Analysis of Social Issues, Migration and Public Opinion at the Centre for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, delivered his remarks on February 18 at a panel session titled “Regional Security C6 in Conditions of Global Instability.”
He described Central Asia as the heart of Eurasia, with Azerbaijan acting as the continent’s main artery, enabling the region’s economic potential to reach global markets.
Khamdanov stressed that investment in Azerbaijan’s port and railway infrastructure represents one of the most promising avenues for cooperation. Developing a coordinated strategy, he said, would allow Central Asian countries and Azerbaijan to function not as rivals, but as complementary components of a unified transport network.
The conference, titled “C6: One Region, Shared Future – Strengthening Strategic Dialogue,” is aimed at deepening regional cooperation within the C6 format and is organised in Baku by the Centre of Analysis of International Relations.
