Baku pushes regional green corridor plans with ADB, AIIB in Philippines PHOTO

A meeting between representatives of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) took place in the Philippines to discuss financing for green energy projects in Azerbaijan.

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, the meeting was held as part of a forum organised by the ADB in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, under the theme “Powering the Future: Innovations in Clean Energy, Regional Cooperation and Integration, Financial Solutions", Caliber.Az reports.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov.

Speaking at the panel session titled “Green Corridors for a Common Future of Central, Western and Eastern Asia,” Zeynalov outlined Azerbaijan’s renewable energy goals, interregional infrastructure projects for green energy exports, and potential areas of cooperation with Asian countries. He also emphasised that initiatives announced in the lead-up to COP29 are creating opportunities to accelerate the green transition and expand international partnerships.

During the visit, participants from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, along with representatives from ADB and AIIB, discussed the development of a Central Asia–Azerbaijan green energy corridor. A roundtable session focused on strengthening energy ties, transport routes for green energy, and opportunities for joint projects.

Additionally, a meeting was held with ADB Executive Director Rachel Thompson, where the sides discussed prospects for joint projects in renewable energy and energy efficiency, as well as strategies for advancing green energy corridors and financial mechanisms to support investment.
