UN Tourism Executive Council re-elects Azerbaijan for 2025–2029
Azerbaijan has been re-elected to the Executive Council of UN Tourism for the 2025–2029 term, following a vote held during the 71st session of the organisation’s European Regional Commission on June 5 in Baku.
The election process was marked by intense competition, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
Nine countries competed for just five available seats representing the European region. Azerbaijan successfully secured its place by receiving a majority of votes in the first round of voting - demonstrating strong support from member states. The Executive Council of UN Tourism, comprising 35 elected member states, is the organization’s principal governing body. It plays a vital role in shaping global tourism policy, including the election of the Secretary-General, implementing the organisation's strategic plans, and ensuring the effectiveness of its operations and decisions.
