Azerbaijan Railways unveils bold plans to boost Middle Corridor at Munich Expo PHOTO

04 June 2025 20:35

Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY), a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Transport and Communications Holding (AZCON), has presented its current achievements and future strategies for advancing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, commonly referred to as the Middle Corridor, at the Transport Logistic 2025 exhibition in Munich, Germany.

Advisor to the chairman of ADY Emil Mammadov delivered the presentation during a panel discussion titled “Rethinking Intermodality: Seamless Flow Across the Trans-Caspian Route and the Role of the Private Sector”, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

He underscored the steady year-on-year growth in container shipments along the corridor, driven by extensive negotiations and cooperation with international partners.

Highlighting recent performance, Mammadov revealed that ADY increased container transport volumes by 56 per cent in the first four months of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. The panel further explored strategies aimed at strengthening multimodal integration and expanding freight volumes.

The Middle Corridor, also known as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), is a major trade and transportation route that connects China to Europe through Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, and the Caucasus. This route aims to provide an alternative to the traditional routes that pass through Russia, facilitating the movement of goods between Asia and Europe. It is designed to enhance regional connectivity and reduce transportation time, offering a more efficient and secure pathway for international trade. The Middle Corridor plays a significant role in promoting economic cooperation among the countries along the route, including Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Türkiye, and is seen as a key element in the broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) launched by China. The development of this corridor aims to boost trade, investment, and integration across Eurasia, contributing to the economic growth of the countries involved.
