Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan to begin laying fibre-optic communication line
Practical work on the Trans-Caspian fibre-optic communication line between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan is scheduled to begin this year.
Kazakhstan's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Alim Bayel announced the plans noting that the project aims to lay a fibre-optic cable along the Caspian Sea bed, enhancing connectivity between the two countries, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Ambassador Bayel announced that the selection process for the contracting company responsible for the project is currently underway. "First, we need to produce the cable, then deliver it to the Caspian Sea and lower it to the bottom. Most of the project will be completed this year and next year," the ambassador explained.
The planned cable line will span 370 kilometres along the bottom of the Caspian Sea. This ambitious project represents a significant investment from both nations, with telecom operators from Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan contributing over $50.6 million (more than 23 billion tenge).
The Trans-Caspian fibre-optic communication line is expected to bolster digital infrastructure and connectivity, providing a critical link for data transmission across the region.
