Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan to lay fiber-optic communication lines along bottom of Caspian Sea
Kazakh Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry Bagdat Musin has said that the construction of fibre-optic communication lines along the Caspian Sea via the Kazakhstan-Azerbaijan route will begin in 2023.
The project will provide the regional countries with alternative internet, as well as expand the transit of traffic between Europe and Asia, Report informs citing Kazakh media.
Kazakhtelecom will act as a partner of the project on the Kazakh side, while AzerTelecom - on the Azerbaijani side.
“The work on the development of a high-level design has already begun, then the corresponding research, later - the design and direct construction of fibre-optic communication lines along the Caspian Sea will be made,” Musin said.
The main route of the communication line will run from Aktau to Azerbaijan’s Siyazan District and will stretch more than 340 kilometres. The reserve channel, which will stretch about 330 kilometres, will be laid from the Kazakh port of Kuryk to Buzovna, which is not far from Baku.
The minister noted that all Central Asian countries are interested in the implementation of the project, as the availability of alternative routes plays a big role in providing the residents with the internet.
