Azerbaijan sees significant growth in trade with key partners in early 2025
Azerbaijan’s foreign trade has demonstrated remarkable growth in the first quarter of 2025, with significant increases in trade with its key partners, including Italy, China, and the United States.
According to data from the State Customs Committee, obtained by Caliber.Az, Italy continues to be Azerbaijan’s largest trade partner, with the volume of mutual trade between the two countries reaching $3.01 billion in January–March 2025. This marks a substantial 43.8% increase compared to the same period last year.
Azerbaijan’s exports to Italy surged by 46.4%, totalling $2.91 billion, while imports from Italy decreased by 4.6%, amounting to $101 million. Exports now account for 45.58% of Azerbaijan’s total exports, up from 33.24% in the first quarter of 2024.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan’s trade with China also showed significant growth, with total mutual trade reaching $1.03 billion, reflecting a 37.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Azerbaijani exports to China rose dramatically, increasing by 4.6 times to $23.21 million, while imports from China grew by 35.2% to $1.01 billion. Exports to China now represent 0.36% of Azerbaijan’s total exports, up from just 0.08% in 2024.
On the other hand, Azerbaijan’s trade with the United States saw a decrease in total mutual trade, which amounted to $133.73 million in the first quarter of 2025. This reflects an 18.8% decline compared to the same period last year. Despite this drop, Azerbaijani exports to the U.S. increased by 27.3%, totalling $15.74 million, while imports from the U.S. fell by 22.6% to $117.99 million. Exports to the U.S. now account for 0.25% of Azerbaijan’s total exports, up from 0.21% in the previous year.
