Azerbaijan learns from international experience in carbon emission taxation State Tax Service says
Head of the State Tax Service under the Azerbaijani Economy Ministry Orkhan Nazarli has said that Azerbaijan is currently negotiating with international organisations to learn from their experience in carbon emission taxation.
Nazarli made these remarks during the International Forum on Carbon Pricing in Baku, Caliber.Az reports.
"To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which is widely practiced internationally, we have assessed the feasibility of implementing a 'carbon tax' or a similar levy. We aim to establish a system for measuring carbon emissions in our country, with the carbon tax as its focal point. In this regard, we are collaborating with various international organisations, think tanks, educational institutions, and related sectors. We are studying best practices and discussing the challenges posed by existing experience to formulate an appropriate tax policy for our country," he stated.
Nazarli emphasised that carbon emission taxation is widely adopted worldwide as a measure to protect the environment.
The main idea of the International Forum on Carbon Pricing is to initiate discussions that could be further elaborated during the COP 29 event and to exchange the best international practices on the use of carbon pricing mechanisms as a tool aimed at decreasing the negative effects of emissions.
