Azerbaijan raises age limit for extended military service

28 November 2023 15:13

The age limit for active military service in peacetime for servicemen on extended active military service, warrant officers and midshipmen, has been increased from 45 to 48 years.

This is stipulated in the draft amendments to the provisions "On the order of military service" and "On military duty and military service", Caliber.Az reports.

The purpose of the changes is to ensure that servicemen reach the minimum length of service required for long service retirement (25 calendar years) and to make better and longer use of the experience of servicemen acquired during their years of service.

Besides, according to the amendments, the period when officers during their active military service underwent training in higher educational institutions of Azerbaijan and foreign countries, improved their qualifications, underwent retraining and internships will not be included in the 10-year period stipulated for dismissal from the reserve at will if this period exceeds one year.

In addition, to ensure gender equality in the Armed Forces, it is proposed to equalize the age limit for women in the reserve and the age limit for male military personnel in the reserve.

The current age limit for women in the reserves is 50 years.
