Armenian PM extends Eid al-Adha greetings to Azerbaijani people

07 June 2025 09:01

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated the Republic of Azerbaijan and its citizens on the occasion of Eid al-Adha, also known as Gurban Bayram.

“Congratulations to the Republic of Azerbaijan and the people of Azerbaijan on the occasion of Kurban Bayram. Wishing peace and prosperity to our countries and peoples,” Pashinyan wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.

Earlier, the Armenian leader held a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, during which he extended Eid al-Adha greetings. According to an official readout, the two leaders discussed the ongoing normalisation process between Armenia and Türkiye, as well as broader regional developments.

Eid al-Adha, or the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important religious holidays in Islam. It commemorates the Quranic account of the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) unwavering faith and devotion to God, demonstrated through his willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to a divine command.

The holiday is observed with communal prayers, charitable giving, and the ritual slaughter of livestock such as sheep, goats, cows, or camels. The meat is traditionally shared among family, friends, and those in need, highlighting the holiday’s core values of compassion, generosity, and social solidarity.
