Baku, Madrid explore ways to strengthen direct ties PHOTO

10 June 2025 15:46

Azerbaijani Ambassador to Spain Ramiz Hasanov discussed bilateral cooperation matters with Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida at a meeting on June 10.

“H.E. Mr. Ramiz Hasanov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Spain, met with Mr. José Luis Martínez-Almeida, the Mayor of Madrid to discuss avenues for Azerbaijan-Spain cooperation,” the Azerbaijani embassy in Spain wrote on X, Caliber.Az reports.

“Both sides expressed strong interest in launching practical, mutually beneficial projects that strengthen direct ties between the cities of Baku & Madrid,” the post says.

For the record, Azerbaijan and Spain maintain cordial diplomatic relations, with both countries showing interest in expanding cooperation in trade, culture, tourism, and investment. Madrid and Baku, as the respective capitals, have increasingly sought to develop direct city-to-city ties, exploring opportunities for joint projects in urban development, technology, and cultural exchange.

Spain is an important member of the European Union, and Azerbaijan has been working to deepen its economic and political engagement with EU countries, balancing its relations between Europe and neighbouring regions.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has also been actively promoting its tourism potential and hosting international events, which aligns with Spain’s strong tourism industry, making collaboration between cities mutually beneficial.
