Azerbaijan registers rise in number of tourists

Some 1,343.7 million foreigners and stateless people from 183 countries arrived in Azerbaijan in January-August 2023, which is 33.8 per cent more than in the same period last year.

Around 31.7 per cent of tourists are citizens of the Russian Federation, 17.7 per cent – Turkish citizens, 7.5 per cent – Iranian citizens, 4.9 per cent – Indian citizens, 4.7 per cent – Georgian citizens, 4.4 per cent - Saudi Arabian citizens, 2.6 per cent – Kazakh citizens, 2.4 per cent – from Pakistan, 2.1 per cent – from United Arab Emirates, 1.8 per cent – from Uzbekistan, 1.6 per cent - citizens of Israel, 1.5 per cent – from Kuwait and Ukraine, 1.4 per cent – Belarus citizens, 1.2 per cent – Turkmen citizens, 1.1 per cent – UK citizens and 11.9 per cent – citizens from other countries. Men accounted for 69.9 per cent, women - 30.1 per cent, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee told Azertac.

The number of tourists from China increased by 8.2 times, from Turkmenistan - by 3.2 times, from India - by 2.4 times, from Uzbekistan - by 1.8 times, from Kazakhstan - by 1.8 times, from Belarus – by 1.7 times, from the Russian Federation – by 1.6 times, from Italy – by 1.5 times, from the US - by 39.5 per cent, from Israel - by 39.2 per cent, from Georgia - by 32.9 per cent, from UK - by 27 per cent, from Kuwait - by 22.3 per cent, from Türkiye - by 19.6 per cent, from Germany - by 18.6 per cent, from the United Arab Emirates - by 11.8 per cent, from Ukraine - by 5.1 per cent compared to the same period of last year.

The number of tourists from the CIS countries increased by 1.6 times and reached 549,400 people, from the EU member states - by 37.8 percent and reached 67,600 people, from Gulf countries - by 10.2 per cent and reached 228,400 people compared to January-August 2022.

Some 71.9 per cent of foreigners and stateless people arrived in Azerbaijan by plane, 26.7 per cent – by train and car, and 1.4 per cent by ship.
